The mission of Deacon Volley Academy (DVA) is to provide young athletes in Winston-Salem and the surrounding areas the opportunity to learn and develop proper fundamental volleyball skills in a structured, fun, and challenging environment. DVA focuses on teaching young athletes how to communicate with each other and creates an environment with as many ball contacts as possible under the active instruction of the Wake Forest Volleyball staff and current Wake Forest players.
All trainings are held in the Wake Forest Volleyball Gym! Every training will be under the direct supervision of either Coach Ken Murczek (Wake Forest Head Coach with over 20 years of coaching experience, Division I player and former Professional player), Coach Sarah Rumely (Wake Forest Assistant Coach and former Division I 2x All-American and former Professional player), Coach Diego Castaneda (Wake Forest Assistant Coach and 9 years of Division I experience) or Jen Murczek (Wake Forest Director of Operations, DVA Director and 10 years of coaching experience). Ken, Sarah, Diego and Jen have incredible passion for coaching and developing youth volleyball players both as people and athletes.
Deacon Volley Academy has a proven systematic way of teaching proper fundamental volleyball skills. The same program has been implemented successfully at both The University of Kansas and The University of North Texas by Coach Ken. Philosophically, DVA believes players under the age of 14 should be spending the majority of their training time working on proper technique and skill development as opposed to playing in a magnitude of tournaments. We believe the most learning takes place within this age group during training with multiple repetitions. The players will be challenged both physically and mentally during every training session in a competitive environment
